How to Talk So AI Truly Understands You
(A continuation of the AI Freelancing Series by Cris Rosales Jr.)

I. The Secret Ingredient: Structure
AI models don’t “understand” like humans do. They follow patterns — and the clearer your pattern, the smarter your output. A perfect prompt is not just what you say, but how you say it.
For example: “Write a blog about real estate” gives you a generic output.But...“You are a real estate expert and SEO writer. Write a 1,000-word blog about the 50-Year Rule in Philippine condos under RA 4726, using a friendly but professional tone, with headings and call-to-action at the end.” Now that’s structured magic
II. The Formula for a Perfect Prompt
Prompt engineers use frameworks — blueprints that guide AI communication. The most popular one is the R–G–T–F Framework:

Element | Meaning | Example |
R – Role | Tell the AI who it should be | “You are a real estate blogger and prompt engineer.” |
G – Goal | Define what you want to achieve | “Create a blog that introduces the basics of prompt engineering.” |
T – Tone | Specify the emotion or personality | “Use an inspiring, conversational tone.” |
F – Format | Tell AI how to present the output | “Include meta description, headings, and bullet points.” |
When all four are aligned, AI becomes your creative partner, not just a tool.
III. Bonus Layer: Context + Constraint + Example
Once you’ve mastered the basics, add depth and direction with these three extras:
Context – Give background info or audience details
“My readers are freelancers learning AI skills.”
Constraint – Set limits (word count, format, etc.)
“Write in under 1,000 words.”
Example – Show what you want
“Use a structure similar to a blog from HubSpot.”
By feeding the AI these clues, you narrow down the randomness — and raise your chance of spot-on results.
IV. Anatomy of a Great Prompt (Visual Breakdown)
Here’s a sample prompt dissected:
[ROLE] You are a digital marketer specializing in real estate content.
[GOAL] Write a blog introducing prompt engineering for AI freelancers.
[TONE] Keep it motivating, practical, and human-like.
[FORMAT] Include meta description, excerpt, and section headings.
[CONTEXT] The target audience are Filipinos exploring online side hustles.
[CONSTRAINT] 1,000 words max, avoid jargon.
[EXAMPLE] Write in the style of a lifestyle blog (like "A Little Bit of Everything in Life").
✅ Result: You get a well-structured, relevant, and branded output that fits your voice and readers.
V. How AI Actually “Thinks” About Prompts
Behind the screen, large language models like GPT-5 break your text into tokens (tiny pieces of meaning). It doesn’t think like a person — it predicts what word most likely comes next based on your structure.
So, when your prompt is vague, the model guesses. When it’s clear, the model follows your direction — and that’s the real science of control.
VI. Building Your Own Prompt Library
As you keep experimenting, create your Prompt Library — a digital notebook of your best-performing instructions.
Here’s how to organize it:
Category | Tool | Example Prompt | Output Type |
Blogging | ChatGPT | “You are an SEO writer...” | 1,000-word blog |
Visual Design | Midjourney | “A luxury home beside a river, sunset lighting...” | Real estate photo |
Marketing | Claude / Gemini | “Write a Facebook ad with Filipino humor...” | Ad copy |
Freelancing | ChatGPT | “Create a Fiverr gig description for prompt engineering.” | Gig content |
Your library becomes your “AI secret sauce” — the foundation for future clients, projects, and personal brand building.
VII. Final Thoughts: From User to Creator
The moment you stop just “using” AI and start designing your interactions with it, you’ve crossed the line from user to engineer.
Prompt engineering isn’t about tricking AI — it’s about collaboration. You supply the imagination; AI supplies the speed.
Every prompt is a flow — a movement

from confusion to clarity. The more you
shape it, the more it reveals its pattern, like waves carved in stone. What starts as a single thought becomes a dialogue, a collaboration between your intuition and the machine’s logic. That’s the secret of great prompting: not control, but connection. You don’t command AI; you guide it — layer by layer, until thought turns to meaning and meaning
becomes creation.
